Case Study: Mexico City

COVERAGE COMPARISON

FLEX™ Coverage

A FLEX™ network requires 24 FLEX™ transmitters to cover the central parts of Mexico City. The red area represents indoor coverage and the yellow area outdoor coverage.

ReFLEX™ Coverage

When adding the up-link, thus transforming the FLEX™ network into a ReFLEX™ network, it is preferable to redesign the down-link coverage as well. When the transmitter antennas are lowered to avoid ISI (resulting in smaller coverage areas), in reality, additional FLEX™ transmitters need to be included in the calculation (not taken into account in this case study).

With an average of three receivers per transmitter, the up-link indoor coverage area (red) almost matches the down-link coverage area (yellow). However, the up-link outdoor coverage has a smaller footprint.

Mobitex™ Coverage

27 Mobitex™ base stations are required to match the coverage of 24 FLEX™ transmitters. Note however that the Mobitex™ up-link covers a larger area compared to the corresponding 73 ReFLEX™ receivers in the ReFLEX™ case.
