ROUND 2: THE USERS
Generally, most paging customers belong to one out of three different
user categories based on level of usage and business needs. The
table above shows how different paging and e-mail patterns would
convert to monthly character use. In the calculations we estimate
short messages to be approximately 16 characters each, whereas
e-mail messages tend to be longer, up to 50 words each.
Whereas a typical
occasional user simply requires a reliable way to respond
to an occasional page from the home office, a frequent user
need to constantly stay in touch with customers across the
world by e-mail and fax throughout the work day.
The calculations
shown above make it quite clear that for professional users,
who need to use the device as a wireless extension of the
stationary PC, 4-8 e-mail messages a day are simply not enough.
How many e-mails does your stationary PC at the office register
in a day? In addition, services like e-commerce and the ability
to navigate through web content such as phone and e-mail listings,
news, stock reports, traffic- and weather information, turns occasional
and average users into frequent users in no time.
Those services
are as well truly habit forming. |
