ROUND 3: PRICING POLICIES

The table above shows a service pricing comparison made between SkyTel, a large operator in the US that uses FLEX™ and ReFLEX™ technology, and the largest operator using Mobitex™ technology in the US, BellSouth Wireless Data. We have also included a Mobitex™ based service package from Research In Motion (RIM) called BlackBerry™ that offers flat rate pricing and unlimited monthly character allowance.

It is quite clear that for many business users, a monthly character allowance of 10.000 characters is not sufficient. The amount of characters barely covers the communication pattern of an “Occasional User” (see previous page) and represents a total of only about 7-15 e-mails (including one reply for each received e-mail) in a month.

The BellSouth and RIM pricing policy reveals the fact that Mobitex™ technology is well equipped to manage data- and transaction intensive services such as two-way interactive messaging, e-commerce and wireless Internet / Intranet access. Mobitex™ technology offers capacity that not even flat rate pricing will overload.
