Brad,

I bet you had no idea of how your newsletter would take off like it has. There was a real vacuum of information and you stepped in to fill it. I can say that you are doing a better job than PCIA ever did! Thank you.

Have a great weekend and a happy Thanksgiving,

Hello Brad:

I know there is an easier way to do this but I'm thinking that a couple of retired paging rigs would make good beacon xmtrs for 10 and 6 meters. Wonder if you might have anything that might fill the bill? Appreciate any ideas you might have on the subject.

[Then I offered to put his message here to see if anyone would volunteer some "retired" transmitters.]

Fine Brad . . . . Appreciate your help. Maybe someone in the Seattle or Phoenix area will read the newsletter and step up.

Carry on

Jobs' ITunes Joins Top Ten Song Sellers

Greg Levine, 11.22.05, 2:00 PM ET

 Steve Jobs
steve jobs

No one will ever want to buy books online. Or anything else, for that matter, right?

Social, business and technology historians alike will recognize those statements as gems of denseness from the 1990s—obtuseness on the part of so-called experts who never saw the potential of Amazon.com or eBay.

Add iTunes, the online music store from Steve Jobs' Apple Computer, to that list. Sure, prognosticators saw Apple's iPod as somewhat marketable—after all, they reasoned, the digital-music devices are like Sony's Walkmans. But with CDs readily available—a bird physically in the hand—who'd want to get their music from a computer?

Lots and lots of people, it turns out. And now, as Jobs celebrates yet another quarter of stratospheric iPod sales, another milestone for his digital entertainment sub-empire: The NPD Group, which tracks trends in downloading, said iTunes now sells more songs in the U.S. than some of America's top brick-and-mortar stores.

According to reports Tuesday, NPD's metrics equated 12 individual iTunes downloads to one album purchase at a physical retail store.

Jobs' Internet melody shack topped such multimedia purveyors as Borders and Sam Goody. Were any traditionalists able to stay on the apex of what was once called "hot wax"? Yes: It should surprise no one that the No. 1 music seller in the U.S. was Wal-Mart.

Other discount retailers also ranked high on the charts. After earth's No. 1 retailer came Best Buy and Target. Then, a shift back to the postmodern, as Amazon took fourth place. FYE and Circuit City were No. 5 and No. 6, respectively. Then came iTunes, with Tower, Sam Goody and Borders filling out the last three on the dance card.

Jobs' jukebox moved into the upper pantheon over the past three months, NPD said. Just in time for the billionaire to dream of a white Christmas—by Bing Crosby or Otis Redding, take your pick.

For safety in high-risk environments
Bosch PS-Pager helps prevent incidents escalating into emergencies
November 2005
PI 5137 ST Kt/He

Bosch Security Systems is launching the PS-Pager (Personal Security Pager), an innovative mobile that is two products in one compact device. It combines the protection offered by a personal alarm device with the convenience of a speech pager. The PS-Pager is lightweight, robust, comfortable and discreet to wear, and easy to use.

Picture: Bosch

The PS-Pager is designed for lone workers as well as high-risk environments such as healthcare institutions and detention centers, where employees can suddenly find themselves in unexpected or threatening situations. The PS-Pager offers the possibility to instantly alert colleagues and inform them about the alarm location. The PS-Pager also has a wide range of uses for everyday tasks, for example providing a secure and versatile instant messaging capability for individuals and large groups.

The device is designed for easy message reading and handling. Features include the reversible top display (ideal for hands-free reading in a pocket), an automatic scroll function, and easily recognizable icons. Alphanumeric paging calls are displayed on the 12-character top display and the graphical front display. This displays 3 lines of 12 characters and also gives visual (accompanied by audible) indication of a low battery and/or out-of-range condition. The last 10 messages received are held in a memory stack and can be recalled when needed.

The PS-Pager offers two types of manual alarm (emergency and assistance alarm); each is adjustable for loud or silent alerting of the emergency team. A built-in vibrating function provides more discreet alerting in situations where audible alerts are not wanted or are inadequate. These include noisy environments, night shifts or Deaf-Alert.

Radio frequency based location detection is a standard feature of the PS-Pager. It is very reliable because the RF signal passes through walls and clothing to immediately provide the emergency response team with the location of the incident scene.

The PS-Pager is fully compatible with existing Bosch Paging and Personal Security Systems which can interface with for example telephone switches, building management, nurse call and fire detection systems.

Yak Communications to Utilize CommPartners' VoIP Network to Deliver its Unlimited Calling Plan on the Yak WorldCity VoIP Service

MIAMI & TORONTO—(BUSINESS WIRE)—Nov. 22, 2005—Yak Communications Inc. (NASDAQ:YAKC), a provider of telecommunications services to residential and business customers, will utilize CommPartners, Inc.'s VoIP network and enhanced applications to deliver its Unlimited Calling Plan as part of the Yak WorldCity VoIP (www.worldcity.com) service offering. The yakUnlimited Calling Plan will offer subscribers a U.S. or Canadian local phone number to facilitate unlimited outbound and inbound calling with features including Caller ID, Unified Messaging and Voice Mail for only $19.99usd/$24.99cad per month.

The yakUnlimited Calling Service will offer robust telephony solutions through IP-based systems technology. The partnership with CommPartners provides a VoIP network infrastructure and enhanced applications that expands Yak WorldCity VoIP's current coverage area within the United States and Canada and enhances its yakForFree (www.yakforfree.com) service to include Local Number Portability (LNP) and 911 emergency and domestic termination services at a lower price point.

"Our collaboration with CommPartners presents a unique approach for offering VoIP services to the marketplace," said Charles Zwebner, Chief Executive Officer of Yak Communications. "Instead of spending significant sums of money to duplicate a network infrastructure for the YakUnlimited Calling Service, we are partnering with CommPartners to deliver a VoIP technology solution offering the widest coverage area integrated into Yak's current VoIP systems. With the support of CommPartners, we will be able to offer additional advancements in the near future. We expect that our relationship with CommPartners will enable us to generate increased loyalty, expand our customer base, and ultimately provide Yak with a higher return on its investment."

Currently, CommPartners offers one of the broadest IP-based network coverage for residential, SMB and enterprise-hosted VoIP services, with over 5,000 rate centers in the continental U.S. and Hawaii. CommPartners has applied for, and expects to obtain, Competitive Local Exchange Carrier (CLEC) status in all 50 states by next year, which will classify it as one of the largest networks of its type in the U.S. CommPartners has built its network for business-quality VoIP services, 911 emergency services capabilities and CALEA compliance - emerging issues that pose challenges to many VoIP service providers. The CommPartners' solution includes the CommPartners Management System (CMS) proprietary OSS platform for automated provisioning, billing, user interface and back office support capabilities. In addition, CommPartners offers hosted features including simultaneous ring, voicemail-to-e-mail, feature activation via the Web, and four-digit dialing. CommPartners provides VoIP facilitation services such as Subscriber Endpoint Control, Connectivity to the Public Switched Telephone Network ("PSTN"), Long Distance services, and Subscriber Management.

"Through our alliance with Yak Communications, CommPartners will deliver yakForFree customers an immediate VoIP solution upgrade that provides unlimited service and allows them to reach a significantly larger calling area than before," said Dave Clark, President, CEO and Director of CommPartners. "We are excited to be a partner in this innovative initiative and to be a part of Yak's much expected success in the marketplace."
